Hi
The core staff handbook allows 20 hours (pro rata) of TOIL to be carried over from one month to the next and from one year to the next. Due to the nature of premises I have increased that to 37 hours (pro rata). The idea of TOIL is to act as a shock absorber allowing you to work excess hours when required with a view to working reduced hours later. So the TOIL should be bobbing between 0 and 37. Site Managers have control over regulating this as long as it fits in with the schools and business needs.
Overtime is a separate issue. This gives us the opportunity to pay someone over and above their standard salary for work carried out to fulfill a specific requirement. This is not balancing the day to day but carrying out additional agreed tasks. This needs to be approved by the Area Site Manager.
These measures are necessary not only to protect the Trust from unbudgetted additional expenditure but also to ensure that we work within the Working Time Directive Regulations.
I Hope that makes sense
